Apart from the infamous gun, this year’s 21km race was preceded by the playing of the national anthem as part of the Anthem Project – a News24 initiative made possible by OUTSurance. There’s something enticing about the sound of the anthem before any big sport event and its power to unify sportsmen and women alike.

Congratulations to Jenet Mbhele who was the first women to cross the finish line in the 21km and David Manja who won his third title in the half marathon. In the 10km, Precious Mashele won his consecutive 10km title and Rutendo Nyahora came first in the ladies’ race.
